A MESSAGE FROM MMA OFFICE MANAGER:
Dear MMA Members,
With the great efforts of every member and board
directors of three terms, during the past three years,
as a fledgling agency MMA has experienced tremendous
growth in terms of program delivery and public profile
in the Chinese community. At the year of 2001, MMA
received the funding from the Ontario Trillium
Foundation and United Way. With those funding, MMA
hired a part-time office manager and web developer so
that MMA can provide continuing services to our
community.
The programs and activities we are running now are as
follows:
Seniors Program: A weekly drop-in for Mandarin
speaking seniors in Peel. Activities include topical
guest speakers and workshops. Social teas, pot-luck
luncheons etc. Educational presentations dealing with
health issues, exercise, nutrition, housing,
self-defense ?as well as cooking and crafts, are
among the many weekly programs planned.
Kids Music Program: This program offers the children a
wide variety of musical experiences with activities
programmed to meet the specific needs of each age
group. The basic elements of music ?rhythm, melody,
dynamics, phrasing and form be taught through singing
games, speech games, movement, playing small
percussion instruments, listening to music and finger
play.
Workshops and seminars: topics vary according to the
needs of members. Such as settlement, cultural
difference and adaptation into Canadian life, job
market and job search, education, health, and
business.
Sports teams: We have a Volleyball team with about 20
team players and a Soccer team with about 20 team
players.
Social activities: We have at least once a month for
the social activities. Such as: Dancing party, Chinese
Movies Show, Picnic, Tour, Celebrations for both
Canadian Festivals and Chinese traditional Festivals.
Also we are working on the application for the funding
from United Way and Trillium Foundation to develop
programs and build capacity for sustainability of MMA.
